On Dualities

Sharp Cookie: If you love ice, it is better to simply look at it. The moment you try to hold it, it melts.

Victoria: I’m a Belarusian photographer based in Chile. I would describe my work as minimalist. I like taking ordinary things out of context and showing them from a different point of view, often using a moody, slightly surreal editing style to take away some of the sense of reality. For me, photography is probably the easiest way to express how I feel about people, places or things that move me.

Victoria: This series is about duality — the contrast between what is happening around us and what is happening inside us. I wanted to explore how many different emotions a person can experience within the same period of time. You can dance while feeling completely lost, feel blue when everything in your life seems perfectly fine, or experience moments of lightness in the middle of something dark. There is something very human in those contradictions. Maybe we are never just one feeling at a time.

What has working with photography taught you about life?

Victoria: Sometimes, a change in perspective can change everything.
