Transitions
Our latest instalment brings 4 track EP by producer Hourfriend and 3D visuals by Bulgarian artist Nikolay Kirchev.
Hourfriend: I’m a producer from Alberta, Canada. My music has always been rooted in the deeper side of dubstep, heavy low end, space, texture, percussion, and sounds that feel like they have a physical presence.
Hourfriend: I’ve always been drawn to meditative states and the idea of going deeper within yourself. A lot of the music I create is made with my own deep meditative experiences in mind. The low end is always a major focus, but I want there to be something beyond that, something that makes the listener feel an emotion or takes them somewhere internally. Sampling is a big part of that process for me. I love pulling pieces from older music, phrases from documentaries, or anything I come across that carries some kind of meaning and sticks with me. Sometimes a small phrase or sound is enough to shape the entire feeling of a track.
This release is called Between States. When I looked at the four tracks together, Embodied Vibration, Suddhi, Naya, and Fray, they felt connected by this idea of transition. Each one occupies a slightly different space, but they all sit somewhere between tension and release, movement and stillness, and the physical experience of sound and something more internal.
Between States feels like a reflection of where my sound is right now, but also where I’m heading next.
