An Exercise in Dreaming
We are excited to welcome Bulgarian artists SMYAH and Vladimir Gruev exploring movement and colours. This is SMYAH’s first drum and bass album with which he expresses his love towards the genre, which has been a major source of inspiration for him throughout the years. While most of his previous work leans towards dubstep, ambient and beats, Range of Motion sets the tone for a new path of exploration in the 170+ bpm sonics.
Vladimir: Movement and Photography are my main ways of expression and occupation. And I’m particularly bad at self presentations. And I love ramen. And cherries. But not together.
Vladimir: This series is an exercise in dreaming. It started 10 years ago, back in 2015 when my camera accidentally created double exposures randomly mixing images that have nothing to do with each other, creating a much more interesting reality which did not necessarily made sense, but left a curious sensation beyond explanation – much like a strange dream on a rainy Sunday afternoon in May.
The colours are bizarre, the faces – hardly visible, the places – desolated. It’s a small world where bittersweet melancholy and accustomed solitude linger in the air. It’s a never-ending project though. I will go for another nap and dream some more.
